Lucky Hiker Rescued By Black Hawk Helicopter

A woman hiking Mount Jefferson in New Hampshire’s White Mountains got extremely lucky after falling and injuring her head on September 11th. According to CBS Local Boston, the 66-year old Massachusetts woman was descending the Caps Ridge Trail when she fell and sustained a head injury. Given the exposed and difficult-to-access location of the incident, an airlift rescue was requested.

Lucky for the hiker, the New Hampshire Army National Guard had been conducting search and rescue training exercises with a Black Hawk helicopter on nearby Cannon Mountain. When the call for an airlift came in, the National Guard put their training on hold and headed over to Mount Jefferson to rescue the hiker.

A crew member was lowered from the helicopter to retrieve the injured hiker. She was then flown to a local hospital. The condition of the hiker is unknown.
