Drought Forces Canadian Ski Resort To Already Cancel Next Season

“The unprecedented drought conditions across southern Manitoba have significantly impacted the resort’s snowmaking water source. Without the ability to make snow, the resort cannot open.”

Ski resorts typically don’t announce that they will not operate for this upcoming season in August due to drought, but we are indeed living in unprecedented times. Holiday Mountain Resort in La Rivière, Manitoba, Canada announced that they will not open this upcoming winter due to a drought that has persisted over the summer. With the lack of rainfall, the mountain will not be able to have plentiful water to have a snowmaking pond for this winter. Snowmaking is an essential part of keeping Holiday Mountain Resort open, so making do without it is impossible. An official statement from Holiday Mountain Resort’s Facebook page is below.

Last season, Holiday Mountain Resort had to close on March 10th due to low snowfall. The mountain features eleven runs, three lifts(two chairlifts), a terrain park, and night skiing. Although the size of the mountain would make you assume that it isn’t a ski resort, the base area features a hotel and cabins. Hopefully, the mountain will be able to reopen in December of 2022.
