Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold provides fitness update on himself & fears Andy Robertson’s injury will be ‘quite bad’

Liverpool draw with Athletic Bilbao

Liverpool played out their penultimate pre-season match of the summer on Sunday.

The Reds hosted Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao at Anfield, putting out a close to full strength side.

The likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were all in from the off.

Liverpool would take the lead in said tie after just 13 minutes via Diogo Jota. However, Athletic Bilbao pulled one back shortly after the break and that is how the tie finished.

The big talking point of the day, however, was not the scoreline but instead an injury to Andy Robertson, who hobbled off the pitch during the second 45.

Jurgen Klopp would confirm post-match that the left-back was set to undergo a scan on Monday, but the extent of the damage is currently not known.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, though, has since weighed in on the situation.

Firstly, the right-back provided a fitness update on himself after he missed Euro 2020 with his own issue. When asked if he is 100 per cent, TAA stated:

“Yeah, definitely.

“I’ve started pre-season quite well, in training I’ve been putting the work in, got the all-clear from the medical staff early doors in pre-season and have been able to push on, get fit and get the full 90 under my belt [against Athletic Club].”

Then, when drawn on Robertson’s issue, Trent stated that though he hadn’t seen him at the time, he feared it was going to be quite bad if Robertson had to come off:

“I haven’t seen him, to be fair, but I think you know it’s going to be quite bad if Robbo has to come off.  It’s not something that he normally does so it’s disappointing to see, but I’m sure he will bounce back as soon as he can.”
