Tottenham fans react to news that Gareth Bale will not return to the club

Tottenham’s supporters have taken to social media to react to Nuno Espirito Santo’s confirmation that Gareth Bale will not be lining out for the club over the season ahead.

Second Spurs stint

Welsh international Bale of course made the move back to North London last summer.

On the back of another disappointing campaign in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid, Los Blancos decided that their one-time record signing would be allowed to depart on loan.

Spurs, in turn, swooped, in what was widely viewed at the time as a savvy piece of business on the part of Daniel Levy and co.

And Bale’s time back with the Lilywhites subsequently proved something of a mixed bag, with the 31-year-old, at times, having been accused of looking altogether disinterested.

In other moments, however, Bale proved a genuine asset for Spurs, looking close to his scintillating best.

During one particularly fruitful patch between mid-February and early March, the veteran attacker racked up six goals and three assists across six appearances.

On the back of Jose Mourinho’s departure, meanwhile, Bale instantly found the net in a meeting with Southampton, before notching a hat-trick amid a wonderful individual display versus Sheffield United.

All told, the Welshman racked up a none too shabby 16 goals across all competitions.

‘Gutted’

In turn, it subsequently came as little surprise, upon the campaign’s completion, to see calls mount amongst the Spurs faithful for their on-loan winger to be brought back for another year.

Such hopes, however, were definitively dashed late last night.

Speaking to the media, recently appointed Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was drawn on whether he intended to sanction a fresh swoop for Bale.

And the Portuguese simply went on to explain:

‘He will not be part of our squad.’

Definitive confirmation of their side’s decision, meanwhile, has since been met with something of a mixed response on the part of the Spurs faithful.

Whilst some have suggested that Bale calling time on his 2nd spell with the club will prove beneficial in the long term, others have been left altogether disappointed, amid a combination of concern that a replacement for the Welshman will not be signed, and nostalgia regarding Bale’s previous heroics in North London:
