Tyrone Mings calls out Priti Patel

Aston Villa and England’s Tyrone Mings took to social media on Monday night to call out UK Home Secretary, Priti Patel.

Immediately following England’s penalty shootout defeat against Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday, racist abuse started to spread on social media.

Disgraceful tweets attacked the three England players who missed in the shootout: Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.

Priti Patel posted her reaction to the racist abuse, saying:

I am disgusted that England players who have given so much for our country this summer have been subject to vile racist abuse on social media.

It has no place in our country and I back the police to hold those responsible accountable.

However, Tyrone Mings was keen to highlight Patel’s hypocrisy when it comes to the issue of footballers standing up against racism.

Just weeks ago, Patel publicly and repeatedly stated her position against the kneeling campaign in football.

The Home Secretary made it clear that she supported the right of England fans to boo England players who took the knee before games.

‘Don’t pretend to be disgusted’

In response to Patel’s tweet, Tyrone Mings posted the following on Twitter.

You don’t get to stoke the fire at the beginning of the tournament by labelling our anti-racism message as ‘Gesture Politics’ & then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens.

Mings also expressed his outrage against the racism which his England teammates have suffered:

Seeing my brothers being racially abused for being brave enough to put themselves in a position to help this country, is something that sickens, but doesn’t surprise me.

F1’s Lando Norris was mugged at Euro 2020 final

Racism wasn’t the only social ill that was plain to see on Sunday night.

In addition, the behaviour of many England football fans during the Euro 2020 final continues to draw negative attention.

It’s believed the several hundred ticketless fans managed to fight and storm their way into Wembley Stadium to watch the England vs Italy game. The scenes were horrendous.

On Monday night, the McLaren F1 team also confirmed that British driver, Lando Norris, was mugged outside the stadium.

McLaren have issued the following statement:

McLaren Racing can confirm that Lando Norris was involved in an incident, after the Euro 2020 final match at Wembley, during which the watch he was wearing was taken.

Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken. The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend.

As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further.

It’s been widely reported that Lando Norris had a £40,000 watch stolen in the incident.
