Gagetown Becomes Exaggerator’s First Stakes Winner

WinStar Farm’s second-crop sire Exaggerator   landed his first black-type winner when his 3-year-old son Gagetown  prevailed June 4 in the Prairie Mile Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Bred in Kentucky by SF Bloodstock out the winning Eltish mare Betty’s Solutions, Gagetown unleashed a determined rally at the top of the stretch and edged stubborn favorite Flash of Mischief  to win by a neck. The colt, trained by Brad Cox, has a 2-3-1 record from seven starts, which include two runner-up finishes in stakes, and has earned $134,262 for owner Rupp Racing.

Gagetown’s win enhances a family already rich in black-type performers. Betty’s Solutions is the dam of Mother Goose Stakes (G1) winner Include Betty  (by Include  ), grade 1-placed winner Blonde Fog  (Divine Park ), and English stakes-placed winner Francesca d’Gorgio (Proud Citizen ), who is the dam of group 1-placed stakes winner Amazonas .

Betty’s Solutions has produced 10 winners from 11 starters. She has a yearling colt by Always Dreaming   that McMahon & Hill Bloodstock bought for $50,000 during the this year’s Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale out of Bedouin Bloodstock’s consignment.

Exaggerator, an 8-year-old son of Curlin  , won or placed in nine graded stakes, which include wins in the Preakness Stakes (G1) and betfair.com Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) and a second in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1). Through June 4, he leads his sire class by number of 2021 winners (27) and ranks seventh by progeny earnings ($1,051,962). He stands at WinStar for $15,000.
