The theme for the Met Gala 2021 may be In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion aka American fashion, but Rosé of internationally beloved K-pop group Blackpink brought some Korean beauty to the red carpet.
The K-pop star made her first official solo appearance in the U.S. for 2021 with a classic K-beauty staple in tow: rosy-pink stained lips. Although I’m not entirely sure which one she swiped on for fashion’s biggest night, the gorgeous hue reminds me of the Peripera Ink Airy Velvet in Pretty Pink or YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in Rose Illicite.
Rosé paired her tried-and-true makeup element with some other fun beauty choices she knows and loves: graphic black liner just above her creases and a sassy ponytail. Recently, the singer dabbled in this eyeliner shape with a neon green decal for a playful Y2K look. This time around, the makeup moment was more sophisticated as her makeup artist drew on the liner to complement her chic black-and-white Saint Laurent mini dress.
Rosé’s blonde hair was tied into a voluminous, low ponytail. Tendrils were left out in the front for a dreamy wispiness while the actual tail was majorly teased for maximum drama. The base appears to have been wrapped with a black ribbon of sorts too.
Surprisingly, Rosé isn’t the first K-pop star to attend the Met Gala — Rain, PSY, EXO’s Lay, and Siwon of Super Junior have all made appearances over the years. She is, however, the one of first female K-pop stars to be invited to fashion’s biggest night alongside CL.
Needless to say, my jaw was truly on the ground when I saw Rosé grace the cream carpet. I look forward to more major American entertainment events including the ladies of Blackpink, so we can all appreciate their incredible hair and makeup. She truly showed the fashion crowd K-pop beauty at its finest.
