Simona Halep: I don't feel pressure anymore

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is looking forward to return to action at the Montreal Masters. Halep, ranked at No. 10 in the world, hasn’t played in three months due to a calf injury. Halep last played at the Rome Masters, where she retired her second round match due to a calf injury.

Halep, a former world No. 1, then skipped the entire grass season and the Tokyo Olympics. “I am still far from my level. I don’t expect anything big from this tournament … I was home for three months, and I enjoyed the time.

I felt like nothing mattered anymore, just to recover from injury. I’m really excited to be here,” Halep said, per Max Gao.

Halep has had success in Montreal

Halep won her first title at the Montreal Masters in 2016 after beating Madison Keys in the final.

Two years later, Halep returned to the Montreal Masters and beat Sloane Stephens in the final to defend her title. “I think I like a lot the conditions. I had great matches; I have great memories. Every time I come back here, I feel like home.

I like the court; I like the spectators. I can say it’s a good place to come back,” Halep claimed. Halep hasn’t had a great season so far as she has yet to win a title. At the beginning of the season, Halep made the quarterfinal at a WTA tournament in Melbourne and then made the quarterfinal at the Australian Open.

“I’m really proud that I was able to stay so long in the top 10. Unfortunately, the injury got me out because I was not able to play for three months. But I’m not sad, upset, disappointed. I just take it as a new challenge.

I don’t feel that pressure anymore,” Halep insisted. It remains to be seen if Halep can win it al in Montreal again.
