Best Selling Yellowstone Guidebook Author Promotes Park Rules After Punished For Breaking Them

advocateAuthor of a top-selling Yellowstone guidebook and the man behind the number one-rated podcast about exploring the park, Ted Garland, was sentenced to week in jail, $1,100 fine and has been banned from the park for 202 for guiding visitors illegally in Yellowstone National Park.

Associated Press reports Theodore Eugene Garland, 60 of Edmond, Oklahoma, led visitors who trespassed in thermal areas and elsewhere, cliff-jumped in an off-limits area and altered a river’s flow by creating a pool for swimmers to soak in. Magistrate Judge Mark L. Carman in Mammoth Hot Springs found Garland guilty of the violations in a non-jury trial in April and sentenced him July 2.

Instead of being a sour grape, Ted took his punishment on the chin and is now an advocate for educating Yellowstone visitors about what you can and can’t do in national parks.  Here’s an interview with Ted about his punishment and advocacy for park rules:
