Mt. Hutt Opens For Season With New Eight Person Chairlift

On Friday(Thursday in the United States), Mt. Hutt in New Zealand opened for the 2021 summer season. With above-average snowfall to start the season off, Mt. Hutt was able to open earlier than usual, and with more terrain than what is typical to start off the season. Stuff reports that over 2200 skiers and riders showed up before midday, and eight individuals even stayed over one to two nights to get the first chair.

Along with that, the mountain now boasts one of the nicest chairlifts in New Zealand. According to Mt. Hutt, an eight-person bubble detachable lift was built this past offseason by Leitner Ropeways. Named the Nor’West Express, it is the only eight-person chairlift of its kind in the country. The new chairlift accelerates the prior lift time from seven minutes to just over two minutes. It can move three thousand skiers up the hill per hour, and it has extremely comfortable padded seats and foot rests.
