Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Will Be Playable Through Safari In A Few Weeks

The rules required to get a game streaming app approved by Apple seems rather troublesome, which is why we’re seeing many companies work around it by making their services streamable through Safari, and Microsoft is one of them. The company has been testing out its xCloud service on iOS for the past few months, and it looks like they’re close to launching it.

In a post on its Xbox blog, Microsoft confirms that its Xbox Game Pass service will soon be streamable through browsers like Safari in the coming weeks. According to Microsoft, “In the next few weeks, cloud gaming on the browser will open to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. With Edge, Chrome, and Safari support, players will be a click away from gaming on almost any device.”

For those wondering why Microsoft and other companies don’t just create an app, it is because like we said, the current App Store rules makes it rather tough. Apple requires that all the games available through the streaming service be available separately through the App Store, and that they all need to be individually reviewed for its content.

Given that some games aren’t designed for the App Store or mobile, it doesn’t really make sense. Plus, with games constantly being added and removed due to licensing contracts, it would be such a hassle. Other companies such as NVIDIA have since made their streaming service available through Safari as well.
