Paulo Fonseca expected to be named as the new Tottenham boss

Tottenham are understood to be on the verge of announcing former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca as their new manager.

Spurs have been on the hunt for a new man at the helm since the departure of Jose Mourinho back in April and after months of frustration it seems Daniel Levy has finally found his man.

Fonseca was recently replaced by Mourinho at Roma and journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Spurs are now taking I Giallorossi’s former boss with Fonseca set to be handed the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Levy had originally claimed he’d hoped to appoint a new manager before the end of the season, though with their rumoured pursuits of Brendan Rodgers, Erik Ten Hag and Antonio Conte all proving fruitless the club have been forced to continue their hunt into the summer.

With former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici understood to be on the verge of being named general manager at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, recent reports have claimed the Italian’s first job would be to find a new boss.

However, with Paratici still not officially unveiled as a Spurs employee yet, it’s unclear whether he’s had a hand in the decision making.

Fonseca spent two years in Rome though the club failed to show any real signs of progress under his tenure and the club’s hierarchy recently revealed they’d decided to part ways at the end of the season.

A fifth place finish Serie A finish was the best Fonseca managed to muster during his two seasons at the helm, with a semi-final defeat to Manchester United in this season’s Europa League the closest the club came to silverware under his stewardship.

Prior to his time in Italy, Fonseca enjoyed an illustrious spell in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, though it remains to be seen how he’ll adapt to life in England.
